After the successful launch of the J5 platform, and completion of two new Lunar rover systems, Ontario Drive and Gear (ODG) recognized a market need for extreme terrain capable 6 and 8 wheel robotic platforms. Due to the resounding success of previous projects, PRS was contracted to provide its expertise in robotic system design and to add advanced operational capabilities through its ARIS robotic control system. PRS provided assistance with motor selection, electrical subsystem design, integration, configuration and test. After completing an in-depth verification and commissioning program, the ATLAS J6 and J8 vehicles were ready to address the most demanding operational requirements of end users worldwide.
The ARIS powered ATLAS J8 is presently in use by military and defense agencies around the world, supporting ground operations. Multiple different configurations are employed to meet each group’s unique operational challenges. The system provides military operators extreme flexibility while operating in harsh environments, improving situational awareness, lightening the load, and providing force protection.
Operational capabilities include:
- RF line-of-sight control
- Long-range teleoperation
- Fully autonomous operation
- Follow-me with autonomous resupply
- Leader-follower convoying
- SubTerranean Autonomous Resupply (STAR) for GPS-denied operation
- NATO STANAG 4586 compliant interface
