Provectus Robotics Solutions Delivers UGV Solution to Duke Energy
Duke Energy in North Carolina took delivery of a UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) solution from Provectus Robotics Solutions Inc and Ontario Drive and Gear with the ARGO J8. Intended for use to carry equipment in extreme terrain, the Provectus Robotics Solutions system gives autonomous resupply capability to the Argo platform. Duke Energy turned to Provectus Robotics to provide an autonomous vehicle solution that would be user friendly and allow an operator to control the vehicle platform from a remote distance. Using manned ATVs carrying heavy loads in steep terrain has proven to be extremely dangerous as rollover conditions exist. Using an unmanned vehicle such as the Argo platform allows for carrying loads in challenging environments while keeping workers safe. Using the Provectus Robotics “convoy mode” the UGV can follow any lead vehicle as a powered trailer that is not physically connected to the lead vehicle. This isolates the vehicles from being rolled together should a rollover event occur. The UGV can also be programmed to follow a GPS waypoint route to perform perimeter security missions of substations and relay video to a remote command station. The Android based user interface app can be loaded onto any Android tablet or smart phone where tele-operation control, route mission planning, and editing can be done to perform desired navigational missions.
